Customer Review: The Bar Book Tasting Room: Precision Syrups Strawberry Ginger Lime Syrup

BRAND STORY — WHERE THIS COMES FROM

Precision Syrups has become one of those brands we’re genuinely excited to keep exploring.

Michigan-made, small-batch, and deeply intentional, they’ve built a lineup that feels like it came from actual kitchens and actual tasting tables — not a flavor lab chasing whatever trend is loudest that month. Every bottle we’ve opened from them has carried that same sense of care: real ingredients, layered flavor, and enough confidence to let the recipe speak for itself.

And this one matters a little differently.

According to Tiffany Wood , Founder of Precision Syrups , Strawberry Ginger Lime is the reason Precision Syrups exists in the first place — originally created as a liqueur during COVID, then turned into a syrup when the realities of spirits production made the business path harder and more expensive. Instead of abandoning the flavor, they adapted it. Built the company around it. Kept the core idea intact.

That origin story makes sense once you taste it.

This doesn’t drink like a random strawberry syrup added to a lineup later.

This feels like a foundational flavor.

BOTTLE STORY — WHAT THIS IS (AND WHY IT CAN BE CALLED THAT)

Like the other Precision releases we’ve tasted, this is a 0.0% ABV rich syrup — so it lives outside the TTB structure that governs distilled spirits. No mash bill rules. No aging minimums. No barrel definitions.

But that doesn’t mean there’s no craft here.

Historically, syrups have always done more than sweeten drinks. They create body. Carry flavor. Provide balance. In the best versions, they don’t just make a cocktail sweeter — they make it more complete.

This bottle is built from strawberries, ginger, dried Persian limes, fresh lime zest, black peppercorns, and nutmeg. That combination could’ve easily gone in one of two bad directions: flat fruit syrup or spice overload.

It doesn’t do either.

And there’s another detail that matters. Tiffany noted that this syrup pours thicker than some of the others because strawberries naturally bring more pectin. Precision intentionally left that alone rather than thinning it with additives, because their customers care about clean ingredients and the brand has stayed committed to that philosophy.

You can taste that choice.

This is richer. Heavier. Closer to jam than juice.

And for this flavor, that works.

OPENING STORY — HOW THIS BOTTLE FOUND THE TABLE

We had been waiting to open this one.

Tiffany had already told us this was the original flavor — the one that kicked everything off — so expectations were higher than usual. And once she mentioned the thicker pour and the natural pectin, the room got even more curious.

We brought it to the table with a group and poured it at room temperature.

The first thing anyone said wasn’t about ginger or lime.

It was, “That smells like strawberry jam.”

That ended up being the right place to start.

THE TASTING

Nose

Strawberry comes up first, and it’s unmistakably jammy.

Not candy strawberry. Not powdered mix strawberry. Jam. Warm fruit. Thick and sweet, with just enough freshness to keep it from feeling cooked down too far.

The ginger is there, but softer on the nose than expected. Lime peeks in behind it, adding brightness. A little spice from the peppercorn and nutmeg hums underneath, but it doesn’t demand attention yet.

It smells generous.

Tasting Room Aroma Notes:

  • Strawberry jam
  • Soft ginger
  • Lime zest
  • Light pepper warmth
  • Nutmeg

Palate

The texture hits first.

This has a jam-like consistency, and that changes how the flavor lands. The strawberry coats the tongue in a way lighter syrups can’t. It feels fuller, richer, and more fruit-driven right away.

Then the ginger starts to move in — not fiery, but lively. Lime keeps the sweetness from settling too heavily, giving the whole thing a needed lift. The black pepper and nutmeg are supporting players, but important ones. They keep the syrup from becoming one-dimensional and push it closer to “cocktail ingredient” than “dessert topping,” even though it could absolutely work as both.

This is one we liked.

It’s not as flashy as some of the wilder Precision flavors, but it’s grounded, useful, and clearly built with purpose.

Tasting Room Flavor Notes:

  • Strawberry
  • Ginger
  • Lime
  • Black pepper
  • Nutmeg
  • Rich fruit sweetness

Finish

Sweet and full, but not flat.

The strawberry lingers first, followed by a little ginger warmth and a citrusy fade from the lime. The spice stays tucked into the background.

It finishes like a preserve that learned how to mix.

Tasting Room Finish Notes:

  • Lingering strawberry
  • Soft ginger warmth
  • Lime brightness
  • Rich, smooth fade

THE ROOM MOMENT — COLLECTIVE TAKE

“This one makes so much sense because it has real flavor, not just a sweetener. The strawberry lands like jam, the ginger keeps it moving, and the lime makes sure it doesn’t get lazy. It’s not trying to be flashy — it’s trying to be useful and delicious, and it absolutely is.”
